Narrow by Filters FAQ

Overview:

Narrow by Filters provides an easy way to manage tags associated with your products and then to utilize those tags to create filters for multiple selection criteria when searching for products in your collections.

Shopify does not have a built-in mechanism for advanced filter, however themes developers have started using tags and groupings to build this functionality in Shopify stores.  Narrow by Filters can be used to add this functionally to a theme that doesn’t currently support advanced filtering, or to keep tags up to date based on product and variant attributes and availability for those that do.

For each filter you define (color, size, vendor, price, etc.) a tag prefix is assigned.  For example a filter for Color would likely have the prefix color-.   Once the filter is created, Narrow by Filters will manage the tags your products that start with that prefix.  Other tags associated with the products are not affected.

Filters:

Variant Map

The Variant map filter allows you to create a filter based on the value of an Option for you products.  The map allows you to associate multiple Option values to a single filter values.  For instance a Color option with values   Chocolate, Caramel, Coffee, Pecan could all be mapped to Brown so that when the brown filter is selected products with all these colors appear.  You can also make a color value appear in searches for multiple filter values.  For instance Aqua could appear in Blue or Green.  Products with sold out variants for the selected filter values will not appear.

Price Map

The price map allows the creation of price ranges filter.

Vendor

This automatically maintains a tag for each Vendor so that vendors can be used as a filter.

Product Type

This automatically maintains a tag for each Product Type so that products types can be used as a filter.

If your theme is not supported, contact us and we will prioritize supporting that theme if it is freely available.

For paid themes or highly customized themes we may need access to your store.  We will send a store access request to gain access.  This will not require adding a user to your plan.  Depending upon the complexity there may be a fee for this service.
